The Del Ray community of Alexandria is my new home. The community was originally the Town of Potomac ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potomac_Yard ) and was primarily the home of the 2,200 or so workers at the Potomac Yards railway switching yard. The facility began in 1906, reached its peak in 1937, and was decommissioned in 1937.
Del Ray is walkable community with an old-fashioned Main Street, Mt. Vernon Avenue, referred locally as "the Avenue". The arts scene and community activities make it an attractive location and I'm very happy to be here.
The Mayor of Alexandria, Allison Silberberg, leads the ribbon-cutting for Dolce and Bean, a new business on the Avenue selling premium confections, gelato, and coffee. I spend far too much time there.
